The title of the event says it all! From May 3rd to 5th, the opera is made more accessible to a wider audience thanks to Tous à l'Opéra! (All at the Opera!). The 13th edition of All at the Opera!
Created in 2007, the All at the Opera! initiative has certainly found its audience. Last year no fewer than a million people participated in the event throughout France. This year, the event is sponsored by the director and costume designer, Laurent Pelly, and the theme will be ‘The Opera; the Great Factory of Spectacle’. All at the Opera! takes place at 26 sites throughout France, but you will be spoiled for choice just in Paris, due to the active participation of the Opera Garnier, of course, but also the Opera Bastille, the Opera-Comique, Bibliothèque Nationale de France and the Bibliothèque du Musée de l'Opéra.
Playful and magical
At the Opéra Garnier, you’ll be invited backstage to see how a performance is staged and how the costumes are designed. In the foyer, a film will show you all the trades essential to the realisation of an opera production, from the carpenter to the wigmaker through the upholsterers and costume makers. You can also participate in a workshop where you learn to make your own costume and have a souvenir photo taken when you’re finished. Remember to book as soon as possible as these workshops are hugely popular!
